Thanks for the letters! Contact with the outside world always brightens my day. I like the sense of connectedness that comes with this blog circle (thanks, Mary Alice!); I like checking up on everybody each day. But emails and letters are way better. Everybody likes getting mail...
Tomorrow, as you guys know, is Memorial Day. This usually falls right in line with my birthday, so it has sort of come to mean for me that I get an automatic day off--a short week for my birthday. Tomorrow is apparently no exception: the ship is having a "steel beach" party, to include a barbecue, movies, and a live band (sort of--I was going to sing, but they're woefully unrehearsed). It should be a fun day.
Today I saw the place where they launched the Enola Gay to drop the atomic bomb on Hiroshima. It was cool and sobering. Cool because no one I know has seen that, and I like seeing bits of history; sobering because, duh, the consequences were enormous. Oh, and I got a picture with the Lieutenant Governor of Saipan. Along with his business card. I don't know what I will ever use that for, but you never know, right?
I'm going to try for a dedicated picture post tomorrow. I might just have to post a link to a hosting site, but I'll make it happen somehow.
